Girl’s night out recommendation- Pizzabella and The Color Purple
May 1, 2009

I went out last night with my friends Kathy and Paula. We went to dinner and then to see The Color Purple. For dinner we decided to go to Pizzabella in downtown Kansas City since the musical was at the Music Hall not too far away. I had heard they made their pizzas in wood fired ovens and had wine on the menu. It was just the ticket. The pizzas (and we shared 3) were not necessarily authentic and simply topped wood fired oven pizzas. They had some traditional but mostly not so traditional combinations of toppings which we appreciated and enjoyed devouring. The open air environment was nice and our waitor was amusing and had a great personality.

The night got even better as it progressed. I love going to the Music Hall. It hasn’t changed since I was a kid. The Original Art Deco design is really something to see and as an adult I always feel grateful that the interior has remained intact. It just feels nostalgic and good. As for the musical, the production was outstanding I thought. The singing was just out of this world good. The songs were nonstop. Singing like that should be an Olympic event and I think that Kenita Miller (who played the character Celie) would win the gold medal. How anyone has the stamina to sing like she does through the entire production and convey the intense emotion of the character like she does is beyond me. Brava to her!
