Rome and Orvieto photographs by Dick Stine
February 20, 2009

A local KC photographer, Dick Stine, stopped by the shop this week to share photos of his recent trip to Italy. They are so lovely you’ll want to plan a trip immediately. However, if you can’t leave for Italy soon but want to be transported there anyway, some examples of Dick’s work will be available in the shop along with his contact information.
Here is his philosophy….
“Beauty comes to us many ways whether in nature’s evening glow of a sunset, a meandering stream, falling snow, seasons turning, or in manmade structures like deserted structures that somehow maintain their dignity and the lonely windmill still willing to extract water for cattle or pronghorn and bison if only turned loose to spin in the constant wind. Such scenes as these have captured my sense of preservation and the need to pass along to others what was and still is important to our knowledge of who we are. This desire to share transports well to other parts of the world where cultures try to maintain an appreciation of their predecessors. The Italians have resurrected much of ancient Rome to be viewed along with the Baroque and the modern era. As a practicing photographer, I found much to capture from those prior lives, and I hope you enjoy reliving the ancient and Renaissance architecture of Rome and the lovely hill town of Orvieto where I expected to see Gippetto and Pinocchio appear from their carpentry shop at any moment.”
